PRESIDENT’S COMMENTS ON THE CREATION OF A COUNTY-WIDE CHAMBER

At our April meeting, your Chamber Board voted unanimously to support the idea of creating a Putnam County Chamber that will exist along side of the Cold Spring Area Chamber and the other chambers and business organizations in the area. Creating a county-wide organization that does not replace, but rather enhances, the value of the local chambers was the goal of the Exploratory Committee from the time it was formed a year ago. Your Board believes that creating an organization that can act as a strategic partner for our Chamber is an “all to gain, nothing to lose” proposition. I personally believe that our members can derive a number of immediate benefits from working with a county-wide organization, including: -an opportunity for more business-to-business selling -a money raising vehicle for advertising funds -an advocacy vehicle for pursuing business community objectives in Albany and Carmel -an educational arm for supporting business activities The local chambers are planning a county-wide networking event on May 25th at Camp Kiwi (see announcement below) and I want to encourage all of our members to attend.

See you there,

Nat

Congratulations to the new members of the Chamber Board. Michael Gibbons, Christina McCoy, Marshall Mermell, Kacey Morabito, and Catharine Square were elected to 2 year terms at our Annual Elections, which were held on December 8th at the Highlands Country Club. Thanks to Jonathan Kruk and existing Board members Cathryn Fadde, Robert Lomino and Buddy Traina for their service on the Nominating Committee, which presented the slate of candidates for the Board to the membership.

The highlight of the Chamber’s well-attended Holiday Party/Election gathering at the Highlands was a silent auction organized by our member Jane Wilson Cathcart. Jane, with the help of silent auction expert Susan Elliott, tirelessly assembled, described and presented over 40 items that were graciously donated by local shops, restaurants, vendors and non-profit associations. The money raised in the auction will be used to fund the Chamber Scholarship, which is awarded annually to a deserving Philipstown high school senior in March.
